LEADERSHIP 

Dr. N. M. Veeraiyan is a trailblazer and a visionary in the field of education. He hails from a small village called Nalligoundanoor in Erode district, Tamil Nadu. A dentist by profession, Dr. Veeraiyan established a first-of-its kind 100-bedded multi-speciality hospital in Erode in 1977.
Following this, Dr. Veeraiyan established Saveetha Dental College in Chennai in 1988. Over the last three decades, the Saveetha Group of Institutions has progressed to becoming one of the top-ranked institutions in the nation and sets the standards of excellence in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Law, Management, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Education, Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences. It achieved NAAC accreditation with an “A-Excellent” grade and was ranked 43 in the University Category by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Government of India.
Dr. Veeraiyan is also a passionate scholar of the Tamil language. He received accolades from the Government of Tamil Nadu for his book “Vaai Pal Maruthuvam”. He was also awarded the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, the “Edupreneur Award” by the Times of India and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

Dr. Saveetha Rajesh completed her MBBS and MD Radiology in Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai. She was awarded the prestigious Master Karthikeyan Gold Medal in Paediatrics.
Following her exceptional educational career, Dr. Saveetha served in several administrative roles such as the Admissions Officer and the Controller of Examinations in Saveetha University. In 2008, she became instrumental in establishing and managing Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, a 1200 bedded super-speciality teaching hospital, under the guidance of her father and mentor, Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan.
Dr. Saveetha’s aspiration to help students balance their inner growth with the pragmatic needs of the modern world culminated in the establishment of The Pupil Saveetha Eco School in 2012 and Balmithra in 2017. She has travelled extensively to places such as Finland and New Zealand, and attended several courses by prolific educators such as Howard Gardner and Kath Murdoch, to learn about diverse educational pedagogies and implement the best practices from different systems in The Pupil and Balmithra.
Dr. Saveetha became a recipient of the “Young Achiever Award” in 2014 and the “Woman Entrepreneur Award” in 2015. Her constant striving for the development of the school and the all-round development of each child is the push that leads The Pupil to greater and greater heights.

Dr. Rajesh Sengodan completed his MBBS at Annamalai University and his MD Paediatrics in Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai. His interactions with children as a paediatrician kindled his interest in school education.
Dr. Rajesh’s passion for innovative strategies to make learning more effective and enjoyable, his dedication towards creating optimal and eco-friendly learning spaces, and his experience of observing the teaching methodologies used in leading countries such as Finland and New Zealand, makes him an invaluable and dynamic member of Balmithra’s Leadership Team.
