NIOS Admissions Guide

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is a board of education recognized by the Government of India that offers great flexibility in terms of choice of subjects and test dates.

The Pupil prepares for the Secondary and Senior Secondary Courses of the NIOS. The Secondary level certification is equivalent to the completion of Class X, and the Senior Secondary level certification is equivalent to the completion of Class XII.

Eligibility

Secondary Level

The candidate must have passed Class VIII, and have a valid proof of attaining at least 14 years of age to register for the course.

Senior Secondary Level

The candidate must have passed a Secondary Course from any one of the recognized boards (Eg. Secondary Course of NIOS, Class X of CBSE, ICSE or any recognized State Board), and have a valid proof of attaining at least 15 years of age for registration.

Subjects Offered at The Pupil

Secondary Level

English, Hindi, Tamil, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Science, Economics, Business Studies, Home Science, Psychology, Indian Culture and Heritage, Painting, Data Entry Operations, Accountancy.

Senior Secondary Level

English, Hindi, Tamil, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, Home Science, Psychology, Computer Science, Sociology, Painting, Environmental Science, Mass Communication, Data Entry Operations, Introduction to Law, Library and Information Science.

Selection of Subjects

  • Students can choose any combination of subjects offered by  NIOS.
  • For obtaining a pass certificate at each level, a learner must pass a minimum of five subjects including at least one or a maximum of two languages.
  • In addition, a learner can also opt for two additional subjects thus, gets an opportunity to learn a maximum of seven subjects.

School Timings

School timing for NIOS students is 8:00 a.m to 3:30 p.m.

Admission Procedure

Application forms are available at the Admissions Office of the school or on the school website on payment of Rs. 1000. 

Each completed Application Form must also include:

  • Three recent passport size colour photographs of the prospective student
  • Copy of the prospective student’s birth certificate
  • Copy of the prospective student’s Aadhar card
  • Address proof of the parent (copy of passport/ration card/ driving licence/voter’s ID card)
  • Transfer certificate from the previous school and EMIS number (if applicable)
  • Academic record from the previous school (if applicable)
  • Copy of the prospective student’s community certificate

Processing of the application may take up to two weeks. Eligible students will be called for an interactive session along with their parents/guardians on specified dates. After the interactive session, the selected candidates will be notified through phone/email. Upon notification, parents/guardians of selected students may collect the Provisional Letter of Selection and pay the fees at the school office.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

The last date for applying T.C will be notified through a circular. Parents applying for Tansfer Certificate must send the requisition letter before the date mentioned in the circular, failing which they must pay the first term fees of the ensuing academic year to get the Transfer Certificate.

Transport

Transport facilities can be availed from designated places located within a radius of 10 km from the school campus. Please contact the Transport Co-ordinator at the school for further details.
