At The Pupil, we believe mathematics goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. It's an integral part of our daily lives – a fundamental skill that has been essential for thousands of years. Take music, for instance: From notes and rhythms to scales and intervals, mathematics plays a vital role in harmonies, tone, and pitch.
To celebrate this connection, we organized Mathalon 2024-25 for our Junior Category students from Grades 4 and 5. The event aimed to provide students with a platform to showcase their knowledge, test their problem-solving skills, and develop 21st-century competencies such as time management , teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
We began with a preliminary round consisting of objective-type questions designed to test conceptual understanding and foster analytical thinking. Students who excelled in this round were grouped into teams of four, with two students from each grade forming a team.
The next challenge was an exciting Treasure Hunt , with six spots mapped out across the school. Teams solved riddles to navigate to their destinations, where they faced math-based questions at each location. Rankings were determined by accuracy and time efficiency.
The top five teams then advanced to the final round – an engaging Quiz that tested their quick thinking and mathematical prowess.
Through Mathalon 2024-25, we celebrated the joy of mathematics and its relevance in everyday life, sparking curiosity and a love for learning in our young minds!
